Coach Kate says she learned how to drive a boat long before learning to drive a car -- and we believe her. She's a US Rowing Level 1 certified coach and longtime LMRC member who's an expert in both sweep and sculling rowing styles.
She hails from Pacific Northwest, where she began her rowing career while attending a master's program at Portland State University. She would later start and coach a middle school rowing program on Vancouver Lake.
When she's not coaching, she works with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Executive. She lives with her husband and two children in Piedmont.

Hi! I’m Grace, I’m a sophomore at UC Berkeley. I started rowing in middle school because one of my friends convinced me to join the team. I only planned to do a season of it before high school but I ended up loving rowing and it became a huge part of my life. I rowed all through high school and attended nationals twice! I love rowing for a lot of reasons but one of the main reasons was that it was really challenging so when I succeeded it felt amazing, whether that was at practice or at a race. I also loved the team aspect and was super close to all the girls and I got to do it with my best friend. Ultimately one of my favorite parts of rowing was getting to spend time in nature, disconnected from everything and just focus on rowing.
